From a Chance Meeting to a Career Path

For Daniel, his journey with Way To Go started during a major turning point in his life.

After a difficult breakup, he left town and hit the road with his brother, David—both of them trying to figure out what came next.

While hitchhiking, they crossed paths with a Way To Go supervisor named Durrell. During that conversation, Durrell mentioned an upcoming project in Wisconsin and told them:

“If you can make it there, I’ll put you to work.”

So they did.

Building On Experience

Before joining Way To Go, Daniel already had five years of retail experience and had led smaller teams.

That background helped—but stepping into large-scale remodels and bigger teams brought new challenges.

Over the next couple of years, he worked across multiple locations, including bike rack resets, continuing to build his skillset along the way.

Stepping Into His Role Today

Now serving as a Site Manager, Daniel leads teams and helps keep projects running smoothly.

One of the biggest lessons he’s learned?

“Not everyone takes instruction or criticism the same way. Learning how to read people and communicate with them has made a big difference.”

The Bigger Picture

Through his journey, Daniel has been able to support himself, grow as a leader, and help the people around him.

What started as a chance meeting on the side of the road turned into something much bigger:

A career built on growth, teamwork, and opportunity.

A Bigger Oppertunity

When Daniel arrived, he quickly realized this wasn’t just a small project.

What he thought would be a simple steel set turned out to be a full store remodel—his first real look at the scale and pace of Way To Go projects.

That moment became the starting point of his career with the company.

Learning Through Leadership

During this time, Daniel began training under Monique Pollard to step into a supervisory role.

Her mentorship played a huge part in his growth.

“If someone pushed back while I was training, Monique always backed me up,” Daniel recalls.

When the COVID pandemic hit and Monique became sick, Daniel stepped in to run the store—while still completing his training with her guidance over the phone.

That experience pushed him forward and helped build the confidence he carries today.

Why He Stays

For Daniel, it’s more than just the work—it’s the opportunity and the people.

“It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to travel. The work isn’t hard if you’re willing to apply yourself.”

And when it comes to loyalty:

“When I needed help, Way To Go was there for me.”
